How did the shoot with Ale go and how do you approach these intimate shoots?
The shoot went great, I’ve been wanting to shoot with Ale for a while. We almost shot once in San Diego – but it didn’t work out. Then, we were almost in Tokyo at the same time – but just missed each other. So, when she finally moved to LA, I felt like we already had established this digital relationship and approaching the shoot was casual and direct.
What is your best advice to those thinking about starting doing photography in 2017?
I almost want to say don’t! Ha. It’s a brutal business. Super fun for sure but holy shit it’s tough to make steady money. Shoot for art and hope that it leads to a job. Don’t shoot as your job and hope that it’s good art.
Your ideal morning?
Clare let’s the dog into the bedroom and he jumps all over me. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the day! Then, I make coffee and she makes breakfast. We used to watch TV in the mornings, but Clare doesn’t let us do that anymore. We tried podcasts for a while. Now we just chat and take the dog for a walk before starting our days.
Big city life vs. nature & wilderness?
I’m a city guy, no doubt about it. I love to getaway into the wilderness, but I love the city so much. I am thinking of NYC, of course. I miss it so bad. Los Angeles is more like a hybrid of nature life and city life.
What are your plans and what’s next for you?
We are taking a little road trip to Texas and back. I’m going to take a break from photography to work on my next feature film. Anyone reading this want to fund my film? It’s about relationships and it’s gonna be cool.
