Rosa Scipion is a self-taught photographer. Raised in Ibiza, Spain, she’s half Peruvian, half Dutch. Such a free-spirited multicultural place made her realize at a young age that she wanted to travel the world; and that’s what she’s been doing for the past five years. Rosa has been following the sun from Australia to Asia, and from the USA to South America discovering the breathtaking nature this world gives us. That is why you will mostly see her subjects surrounded by it.
“Many of the girls I shoot with are my friends already so there is no need to be shy between each other and shoots flow very well.“
How did the shoot with Araceli go and how do you approach these intimate shoots?
The shoot with Araceli was supposed to be a golden hour story, but for some reason it was the only cloudy day of the summer until then … I still loved the mood so we decided to shoot anyways. Many of the girls I shoot with are my friends already so there is no need to be shy between each other and shoots flow very well. When I meet with new people to shoot for the first time, for me it’s necessary for them to feel comfortable. I normally pick them up and as they are not from here I show them around and take them to the location where we will shoot, meanwhile we chat a bit and get to know each other better. By then we are already getting along well and shooting just flows naturally, and they normally just feel really comfortable and happy and that makes me and my creativity happy too!
Can we photograph the female body in a more powerful way?
I am still finding my own way and style in photographing the female body, also in a way that is not always sexually looked at. I find it always powerful, it just depends on the eye of the beholder.
Your ideal morning?
Waking up early on a sunny day, no editing to do, and enjoying my free time.
What makes you happy?
What’s next for you?
I never really know what’s next. I’m always open for new adventures, like there are many options where I would spend my winter now, so I’m happy with whatever life throws at me!
