Glitter Guts

mccormack & blitzer

Callum McCormack and Simon Blitzer are both photographers based in Calgary, Canada. Lately they have been teaming up together on commissioned shoots and are building a music centred photography portfolio. Callum, Simon, and a few other local artists will be launching a production/creative studio TBA later this year. We talked to Simon about his and Callum’s set.

How did the idea for the series come about?

Cal and I had been sending each other reference photos from shoots with glitter for a couple weeks and eventually decided that we needed to have our spin on the concept. Luckily enough we had models who didn’t mind finding glitter in their hair weeks after the shoot.

How do you approach these intimate shoots?

It’s different depending on the model and location, who else is in the room etc. With friends it’s always easy to jump right into the super intimate shots, but with new models I always try to gauge their personality and make sure they feel and look comfortable with each scene.

What do you hope to achieve through your photography?

A moment of pause from the viewer, to look at the little details and nuances. To take photos that resonate with people, that they can relate to a feeling of nostalgia or some deeper emotion.

What is your best advice to those entering the industry?

Make friends, and don’t burn bridges.

What’s next for you?

Besides our personal endeavours, Cal and I are beginning to focus on shoots for album artwork, single artwork, and general branding/visuals for upcoming artists. The marriage of music, photography, and art is exciting and provides endless inspiration.
