Stephanie Bonnefoy, also known as SeesFee, is a 35mm film photographer based in London. This series Peaches is a celebration of the female body, the human form being a running theme in a lot of her work.
How did the idea for the shoot come about and how do you approach these intimate shoots?
In all honesty, the outcome of this shoot was completely different from the idea I had in mind. I originally wanted to shoot a series evolved around layers and textures. However, as I began shooting I became very involved in the beauty of these girls’ bodies. All completely different shapes and sizes yet each uniquely stunning. Before choosing my models, I make anyone I approach very aware of the style of my work, and make a vivid point that some ideas may contain nudity. Not only this, on the day of the shoot I double check everyone is happy with my intensions and always respect any discomfort at the time, as although the idea of prancing around in your underwear seems fine, when it comes to it, it can all become very real and daunting. To help with this I make sure I’m in a safe comfortable location and always have a plan B. For example, during this shoot one of the models wasn’t happy with the body suite I had picked for her, so I made sure I had various different options to ensure she was comfortable.
What is your best advice to those thinking about starting doing photography in 2017?
Say yes to any opportunity, create ideas from everything you see.
Your ideal morning?
Waking up to sunshine. I have crazy seasonal effective disorder, (self-diagnoses of course ;)) but even in the cold months the sun can completely switch me around!
Big city life vs. nature & wilderness?
Jeeze, the battle I have in my mind every day. The city is hard, it’s hectic, and quite lonely at times. You spend your days at work just to make ends meet then at the weekends you fight with yourself as to whether to rest or go out and let off steam. I find that when I go home to my parents in the country I come back to the city revived and refreshed, but I spend the whole time wondering what I’m missing out on. At the end of the day my work is in the city, but I am a country girl at heart … I need to see green, breath fresh air and hear silence. I count myself lucky I can switch between both.
What are your plans and what’s next for you?
I have been seriously work orientated recently, and it’s defiantly paying off, but I’m ready to incorporate my work with some traveling too. I’m spending my time looking at places I can shoot while enabling myself to get out of the country for the weekend too. It’s harder than I thought … though nothing good comes easy.
