Karel Chladek is a Montreal based photographer specializing in documentary nightlife photography. Occasionally he also explores portraiture and fashion with friends he’s met in the industry. Karel always approaches a shoot with an open mind as he wants both the model and photographer to be working together to create something natural and unpredictable.
How did the shoot with Saya come about?
Saya has been an old friend of mine. It takes one text message for us to get together and make an improvised photo series, nothing more.
Can we photograph the female body in a more powerful way?
Yes, we can always photograph the human body in a more powerful way.
How would you define beauty and what inspires you?
As a people watcher, my inspiring moments are isolated and personal. To me beauty can be defined by light and moment. Anything can be inspiring and beautiful alongside a good neon or sunshine right?
Film or digital?
I’ll give credit to both as I’ve used them for different purposes but in general I’ll take digital over film for the freedom it allows. Big fan of film textures and tones though.
What makes you happy and what’s next for you?
Seeing people in ‘love’. I’m planning on having nightlife fine art prints available and exposed soon, and a few more series with friends obviously. All will be announced on my Instagram.
