Heather Glazzard is a photographer based in Manchester. Her work questions gender stereotypes by showing diversity of female sexuality. Her work focuses on the female body in its original appearance without retouching the reality. As well as being a photographer she is also the founder of the all female art collective M(.)IST.

How did the idea for the series come about?

I wanted to take some photographs that showed intimacy and Sia was really up for that. We worked really well together and her want to be naked is sort of empowering I found.

Can we photograph the female body in a more powerful way?

Yes, I guess by showing how it is, in its real form and stepping away from the sexualization of the female body.

How would you define beauty and what inspires you?

Beauty to me is something that’s in its most natural form, when the need for something fake is no longer apparent. I’m inspired by the people around me most, I’m surrounded by a group of empowered, amazing artists.

Film or digital?

Film.

What makes you happy and what’s next for you?

At the moment building up my portfolio is making me the happiest, I can’t wait to have a great body of work that resembles me as a photographer. I’m working on lots of projects, my art collective, portfolio and finishing my degree. The next step is graduating and being able to completely go into a professional environment in what I love doing.
