Stephanie is a 25-year-old photographer born in Brazil, where she graduated from Law school. She got bored of it so she moved to Vancouver to study photography and now she focuses on portraying people. She occasionally models for friends and she’s learned a lot from switching roles and being in front of the camera.
How did the shoot go and how do you approach these intimate shoots?
It went smoothly. To me intimate sessions are about being myself in front of the camera, regardless of the clothes I’m wearing. I felt comfortable with myself and around the photographer and that’s pretty much it.
What do you hope to achieve through your modelling?
I don’t model very often, but when I do I expect to do a good job with the photographer and mostly have fun.
What are your perceptions of beauty?
I believe beauty has 7 billion different faces, you just have to recognise it.
Do you think there’s a way for photographers/the industry to capture the female body in a more empowering way?
The industry needs to stop promoting unrealistic beauty standards and artificial retouching and start portraying women as the beautiful human beings they are.
What is your best advice to those entering the industry?
Look for inspiration to find your own style and work on it. Be a storyteller. I wouldn’t tell people to strive for perfection because I believe there’s no such thing, so just do something that makes you proud and look for people in the industry that appreciate what you do and get to know them.
